There are numerous amounts of places in and around Wichita that provides the best day trip option for individuals or families.
The Chisholm Creek Park contains 125 species of wildflowers, 38 species of tree and shrubs, 20 species of mammals, 160 species of reptiles and amphibians, and 13 species of fish. The Chisholm Creek Park does have a few regulations in place to protect and preserve the natural features of the area.
Some of these regulations include the prohibition of pets, bicycles, skateboards, and skating. Additionally, the harassment or capture of animals is prohibited, along with the collection of plants, seeds or flower. Fishing is an activity that is allowed, however, this activity is restricted to the Island Pond that is downhill from the nature center and the Chisholm Lake that is on the north side of K-98.

The Sedgwick County Zoo provides guest facilities such as gift shop, concession, Plaza Beastro restaurant, and giraffe feeding opportunity. The Sedgwick County Zoo provides signature events that are available throughout the year; these events include the Easter Eggstravaganza, father’s day Car show, Zoobilee and Night of the Living Zoo.
The Sedgwick County Zoo has a family fun which lasts for a total of 60 minutes. Each 60-minute class will include structured and non- structured nature play time and is open to all ages; adult attendance is however required. These classes begin and end in the Cargill learning center and start at 10:00 am. Before entrance to the Family Fun class, each child and adult must have a ticket for the class, and a ticket is required for all persons over the age of six months.
